THE RESTORATION OF THE HOUSE OF PAVLOS MELAS IN KIFISSIA

                                                 Pavlos and Natalia Mela

The abandoned house of Pavlos Melas, in Kifissia, has been renovated and is opening its gates to the public.  A ceremony for the restoration of the historic house of the Macedonian hero is organised by the Ministry of National Defence after the donation of Mrs Natalia Ioannidou.

The ceremony will be honoured by the presence of the President of the Republic, Mrs Katerina Sakerallopoulou and the Speaker of the parliament Mr Konstantinos Tassoulas, ministers, MPs and representatives of the political and military leadership of the Armed Forces, taking into account the provisions of EODY (Public National Health Organisation) in the context of health protection.

The first attempts for the restoration of the house were made in August 2019, the relevant proceedings were completed and from February the restoration works began.

The Mela House will function as a living historical monument so that younger generations will be informed of the head of the family, the Cadet, the officer of the Hellenic Army who took part in the Macedonian Conflict, Pavlos Melas, through his personal effects which will be donated by his family.

For the completion of the project, there was the cooperation of the Ministries of National Defence, Finance and Culture and Sports in order to implement the rehabilitation study by the team of the Civil Non-Profit Company of Drama "Cyclops", which covered with its sponsorship the cost of the restoration work of the monument.
