On Thursday, the 12th October 1944, the German occupying forces lowered the swastica from the Acropolis and finally left Athens.
The Nazi forces vacated Athens and began leaving Greece to avoid being cut off by the fastly advancing Allied army, therefore, the Germans were forced to withdraw very soon from mainland Greece. Obviously, this is a very important anniversary for our country. The Ionian islands were liberated around the 20th of October 1944.
The 12th of October is my son Yiannis' birthday. Chronia polla ke kala, Yiannouli mou!
