CONCERN ABOUT THE CORONAVIRUS CASES AND FATALITIES IN GREECE

Greek health authorities were on alert, on Friday, due to an increase of patients with COVID -19 that are in intensive care, though an upward trend of infection appears to have stabilised, according to epidemiologists.

Yesterday, the National Organisation of Public Health announced 391 new cases of the pandemic and 1 fatality, pushing the total number of infections to 21.772 and the death toll to 432. A record of 98 patients are incubated in intensive care units.  Of the newly infected,161 were in Attika.

Meanwhile, authorities presented a new online health safety map assigning different levels of risk in different parts of the country, with areas coloured green, yellow, orange or red according to the level of transmission of the virus.   Green showing the safest and orange or red the most affected areas.  Apart from showing the spread of the disease in the country, it also shows a list of the restrictions that must be applied in each region.

Presenting the map, the Deputy Civil Protection Minister, Nikos Hardalias, said that it had been designed to serve as a useful tool for patients, doctors and the public in general.
