The Greek prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Samos, on Saturday, to speak to the earthqúake-stricken islanders and expressed his condolences to the parents of the two children who so unfairly lost their lives.

Mitsotakis, accompanied by the General Secretary of Citizen Protection, Nikos Hardalias, first visited the spot where the two young people lost their lives, 15-year-old Claire and 17-year-old Aris.   He then met with parents of the two teenagers and had a private conversation presenting his sincere condolences.  He also visited parts of the island that suffered damages.

The Island is trying to recover from the deep wounds caused by the earthquake, while, simultaneously, the residents lament the loss of the two youngsters.

Incidentally, the earthquake that struck between the Greek island of Samos and the Smyrna (Izmir) in Turkey, last Friday made the leaders of the two countries put aside their differences and offer condolences to one another as good neighbours aught to.

Since the number of casualties and damages are much higher in Smyrna, Greece offered to assists the Turkish authorities to locate and rescue people who are trapped under the collapsed buildings.

                                                   Turkish Reconciliation?

The Turkish President Erdogan thanked the Greek Prime mister Mitsotsakis and was unexpectedly friendly. following months of hostile rhetoric and aggressive actions against Greece over Greek territorial waters in the Aegean Sea.

"The two neighbours show solidarity at difficult times is more valuable than more things in life," Erdogan wrote in a letter addressed to the Greek Prime Minister.

(I wish to thank the Greek and international press and media and  the blog Greek Reporter for the valuable information for this post.)
