The Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius ruled over the classical world's most powerful empire.
In addition to his achievements as a strategist and administrator is admired to this day for his grasp of Greek philosophy particularly the school of Stoicism.
Marcus recorded his innermost thoughts and philosophical research in his personal journal "Meditations."
Thanks to the survival of his private journal an intimate record of the Roman Emperor's philosophy can still be read by modern audiences.
During his early years and throughout his reign as emperor, Marcus maintained a close connection with Greek philosophers, historians, and thinkers of the day. As Emperor he faced turbulent times that forced him to put his philosophy into action.
