The year was 480 BC when King Leonidas of Sparta, left with a only a few dozen fighters from the ooriginal 300 at Thermopylae gave a speech whose motivational power has resonated over the millenia.
We don't know exactly what Leonidas told his troops because none survived to tell the tale, other than a messanger who was sent back to Sparta and ofcourse the traitor Ephialtis who gave Leondas position to the enemy.
