THE GREATEST BYZANTINE GREEK SCHOLARS OF THE RENAISSANCE

 

Between the 14th and the 15th centuries a wave of Greek scholars left their homeland in in the Byzantine Empire for the Italian Peninsula where they would play an important role in  the flowering of the Renaissance.

The Remaissance which actually means rebirth was a period usually identified as lasting between the 14th and 17th centuries. It was charactrized by an interest in the Greek and Roman past with the scholars of the time looking back to classical civilization for inspiration in the  arts and sciences. When the Byzantine scholars arrived in Italy. A new wave of Byzantine intelcctuals who were well versed in ancient Greek sources and gradually widen the scope of their academic and artistic endeavors that were possible.
