ANCIENT GREEK LION FROM PIRAEUS NOW ADORNS VENICE'S ARSENAL

 The story of the ancient Greek Piraeus Lion which is now in Venice is one of Greece's long history anceint Greek sculptured masterpieces.and their subsiquent looting which means that many of them are scattered in museums and hstorical sites around the world.  

The imposing lion statue thougt to have been made around 360 BC was the landmark of the ancient Greek port of Peraeus which stood proud in its place at the entrance to the habour until 1687 when it was looted by the Venetian Naval Commander Fransesco Morosini.

It is currently on display at the cathedral of Saint Mark who is Venice's patron saint.

PLEASE DON'T FORGET THAT THE PARTHENON MARBLES MUST RETURN TO GREECE.
