Prince Philip was seen as a Greek God when he was young, Queen Elizabeth's bridesmaid said during a pannel discussion Lady Pamela Hicks, 93, who was also Her Majesty's lady-in-wating and Philip's cousin as well has opened up her lifelong friendship with the monarch.
She revealed that Prince Philip used to show off around Princess Elizabeth when they were younger.
Lady Pamela is the daughter of Lord Louis Montbatten and the great-grand-daughter of Queen Victoria, During the talks, her daughter India Hicks noted that Mountbatten thought that Philip and the then-Princess Elizabeth would be a good match.
India said to her mother "Your father and my grandfather had then already thought it might be a good thing. They met when she went to visit Dartmount College and already then she was struck by Philip."
Lady Pamela replied: "Well he was a Greek god and ofcourse showing off like mad because he was told to look after Princess Elizabeth," Later every girl in England was in love with him. He was really stunning.
India continued, saying the British court "had trouble" because Philip was a "Greek prince with no money, no position in court and in fact was pretty homeless.
Lady Pamela agreed, adding: "They were horrified! Where were the upright Scottish or English noblemen or Dukes that she should be marrying, not carrying on with a pennyless Greek prince."
But they did get married and it was a very happy marriage and Britain was governed in the best possible way until their death.
