GREECE REVEALS NEW NATIONAL ARCHAELOGICAL MUSEUM DESIGNS

 

The National Archaeological Museum of Athens, one of the most important museums in the world devoted to acient Greek art will be expanded and revampt.  

The Ministry of Culture announced on Monday the wining entry for the New Archaeological Museum  is selected by an internatioal committee.

The winning design belongs to the architrectural offices of David Chipperfield Architects and Alexandros Tombazis and Associstes SA. 

The committee was set up in April 2022 for the New Arcaeological Museum, a subterranial extension  and its link with the historic huilding Acropol-Akros on Patission, the street the current museum is on. 

According to the Ministry, the committee chose the finalist over the following points for incorporating elements of a creative relationship between the old and new buildings, its quality of spatial experience, a sensibilility to museological challenges, the intergration of urban signs and solutions to environmental design issues.
