According to the Greek Ministry of Culture, archaeologists
excavating a site at Ilia, a region near Olympia, in the western Peloponnese, recently discovered graves spanning from the second to the fourth century BC.
Notably, the four rectangular graves are lined with rocks,
three funerary containers, called pithoi, were found in the site as well as an
individual coffin covered by ornate tiles and a marble grave stele.
Inside one of the pithoi, the archaeologists discovered an urn with its base and handles decorated with a floral design, and a bronze mirror with a relief was also discovered. These objects date from the early 4th to the early 3rd century BC.
