SAFE TRAVELLING AND EU/UK TALKS

The good news is that as from this week you can move and travel to many European destinations.  For this reason, the European Commission has launched a new website specifically to check destinations and to make holiday planning safe.

The UK is currently in talks with the EU about joining its coronavirus scheme to make joint purchases of vaccines when they become available.  A European spokesman said on Friday that discussions were "ongoing" after the bloc reached out to the U K  whether it was willing to cooperate on the approach.

The EU is planning to spend billions of euros on advanced payment for a potential vaccine and if the UK joins the effort, the "mix" could give an idea of cooperation between the two post BREXIT countries.  It also comes just days after the US bought nearly the entire world's supply of remdesivir, one of the two drugs proven to treat COVID-19 and the only approved by the European Medical Agency.

The Financial Times quoted a government official as saying "work is ongoing to determine whether and how the UK can participate in the EU vaccine strategy."  They said that decisions could be made as early as next week after considerations are given to the sensitivity of joining the EU scheme amid BREXIT.

I am delighted that the UK decided to cooperate with the European Union on this important issue.  I have hopes that this might lead to future cooperation on other serious matters.  And could this possibly lead to Britain rejoining the EU?  Wishful thinking perhaps?
