BREXIT PROBLEMS AND BREMAIN HOPES

Lord Heseltine

According to Tory Lord Heseltine, the UK will rejoin the European Union despite the 2016 referendum results.  The UK is less than six months away from relieving itself of commitment ties to the EU.

Currently being in the transition period, but by the end of this year, the UK will no longer be required to pay taxes to Brussels, nor will it be obliged to follow its rules, which are crucial aspects for many Brexeteer voters and politicians.

The breaking of ties with the EU also means a  rupture of trade and security with the block.  Both sides want a favourable post-Brexit deal to ensure that tariffs and security systems remain largely the same.  Talks, however, have so far proved difficult.  This lack of communication was, unfortunately, encouraged by the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown.

Earlier this week, the EU's chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, and his entourage of Brussels advisors visited 10, Downing Street. The visit, although a short one, was intended to negotiate an agreement.  David Frost, Mr Barnier's UK counterpart welcomed him at 10 Downing Street.  Westminster officials hope the meeting will help towards securing Britain's future role, worldwide, as an independent country.

However, it has taken four years to get to this point as Remain voters have fought vehemently against the Brexit process. The Liberal Democrats caused the greatest outroar and in 2019 the party ran an election campaign promising to abolish Brexit without a referendum.

An unlikely opponent came from Tory Lord Heseltine, once deputy prime minister under John Major, famous for his nationwide "regeneration programme".  The Tory peer is, fortunately, opposed to Brexit.

Pro-EU SNP campaigners will reveal their plans to keep Scotland inside the Europen Union and reject Brexit.  The unexpected and strong announcement came from former SNP propaganda expert, Fergus Mutch who said that Scotland would not allow Brexit to happen.   Speaking to the press Mr Mutch revealed that he was director of EU and Me, an SNP Remainer campaign for Scotland to break up the UK and join the European Union.

Mr Mutch, formally the SNP's head of communications and research told the press "that they would exploit the sky-high support for Scottish independence".  He said that next week a new campaign to keep Scotland and the UK in the EU would be launched.

A Remainer said: "Just a few months ago, it was unthinkable that the UK would leave the EU.  Now the Tory government seems to be talking about it. We can't have that as Scotland did not vote for that".
