The White House |
When Donald Trump had a chance to act like a president, he disappeared. In times of crisis, people look to their leaders but this time the residents of the USA can't because Trump is absent without leave.
Even if he were to address the nation now, few would believe in his words in order to stop their anguished protests over the killing of George Floyd, over the failure to recognise the plethora of deaths from the coronavirus, particularly in the black and brown communities. Also, over the continuous over-policing and the constant insulting search for enemies.
Trump can't hear black and supportive white voices, can't acknowledge that people feel deceived by his version of America. Instead, Trump's instinct to find enemies leads to terrible remarks that simply make things much worse.
And there is growing evidence that there are white organised protesters who are following plans to use black grief as a mask for constant, violent attacks on representative pillars of the American society. Among the protesters, there were some from the far left to the far right who were to join forces against the government authority. But then Trump organised the Antifa (an antifascist organisation) as representing all that is bad in the US, without acknowledging the right-wing white separatists. Trump only finds the support of the law important if it is aimed at those that he identifies as enemies.
And so, as far as we have learned, the Federal government of the USA is not a source of contentment for most of the American people. At this time of crisis, they feel they have been abandoned, whether it is the pandemic or the desperate economical situation, jobless, homeless, wearing masks or protecting their rights as citizens they are left to themselves to act locally.
As the pandemic soars and Minneapolis burns to ashes, Trump aims at social media and protesters. In his latest trial to abolish the US Constitution, the budding dictator Trump issued an executive order attacking the First Amendment rights on social media. Then he called for state violence against people suspected of having property crimes.
In doing so, Trump diverted news coverage from the significant news of the day, his incompetent handling of the coronavirus pandemic and his encouragement of violence against coloured people and Muslims.
The real news is that there are more than 103.000 confirmed American coronavirus deaths. That is 28% of global deaths even though America has only about 4% of the planet's nearly 7.8 billion population.
This just another crazy Trump action and it reveals his real intent to cover criticism which is an anti-American act. Unfortunately, deaths surge beyond official figures. Meanwhile, Trump issued an idiotic executive order. He has no power to change the law that shields social media companies from liability for most of the crazy stuff he and others post. Only Congress can make laws.
And there is the absurdity of Trump using Twitter to explain that Twitter is unfair for simply showing some of his tweets as false, questionable or inciting violence.
American presidents take an oath to uphold the law and defend the American Constitution. Trump obviously does not know what is in the constitution and he doesn't care. Extrajudicial killings happen, but the White House call for extra violence, either by the police or by mobs which are impeachable offences.
Yet the American people stay focused and don't allow Trump, who will certainly be impeached, to distract them from his failure and his dictatorial ambitions.
We feel extremely sorry, dear American Friends, that you have to be governed by such an absurd president.
Unfortunately, the US is in chaos. Ten innocent people are killed by the militia. Shops are looted, fires are burning buildings and cities into ashes. Is racial discrimination turning into civil war?
