The Academy of Athens is famous around the world as an excellent example of neoclassical architecture or architecture that borrows
topics and aesthetics from Greek antiquity.
Located in the centre of the city and modelled after an
ancient Greek temple the building acts as a link between ancient Athens and
present times. This beautiful building
also houses the senior research institution for archaeology, philosophy and modern Greek dialects and many other
subjects.
Designed in 1859 by the Danish architect Theophil Hansen,
the Academy is part of the famous “Trilogy” which includes the National Library
and the University of Athens.
