GREEK-CHINA DISCUSSIONS

 



Greece and China discuss the agenda of 2021 Culture and Tourism Year.

The events indicating the Greece-China Year of Culture and Tourism topped the agenda of talks, this week, between the Greek Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, and Chinese Ambassador to Greece, Zhang Qiyue.

 

The Greece-China Year of Culture and Tourism events, which begin in May 2021 are aimed to strengthen the ties between the two countries.



The statues of philosophers and teachers, Socrates and Confucius will be unveiled in the Ancient Agora, in Athens, for the opening event in May said he ministry.

Titled “Socrates and Confusius: A Meeting” the work is the creation and donation of the National Art Museum of China and the director and sculptor Vu Weishan, who is also president of the People’s Artists Association of China.

 

Weishan visited Greece, last year when he met with Mrs Mendoni to discuss the potential of new partnerships between Greek and Chinese museums, the exchange of know-how between the two countries and the possibility of establishing common art programs,

 

During the meeting with the ambassador, Mr Mendoni revised the schedule of events and initiatives, within the framework of the Greece-China Year of Culture and Tourism which will take place when COVID 19 restrictions are lifted.

The event includes the exchange of exhibitions to open at the National Museum of  China in Beijing, the museums of Hanan, Nanjing, Shanghai and at the Palace Museum of the Forbidden City in Beijing as well as museums all over Greece.

 

Ambassador Zhang Qiyue also informed Mrs Mendoni of events planned by the Chinese Culture Centre, in Athens and discussed ways to find the illicit trafficking of antiquities, promote archaeological research, and organise archaeological and contemporary art exhibitions, among others.
