Saint Valentine’s day is celebrated, annually, on the 14th
of February. There are numerous
martyrdom stories associated with various Valentines connected to the 14th
February, including the imprisonment of Saint Valentine of Rome, for ministering
to Christians persecuted under the Roman Empire, in the 3rd century.
The day became associated with romantic love in the 14th
and 15th centuries, in England. Actually, the British poet Geoffrey Chaucer, besides all his wonderful literary works like The Canterbury Tales is also credited with being the first who associated romantic love with Saint Valentine.
St Valentine’s Day is commemorated today by presenting
flowers and sending greeting cards. Valentine’s
Day symbols are heart-shaped outlines, doves and winged Cupids.
