Many Greeks recall the speeches in English peppered with Greek-origin words and phrases used by Xenophon Zolotas given by ecomist and polytician Xenophon Zolotas in the late 1950s
Zolotas was Director of the Bank of Greece when he appeared in front of an audience of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Developement conference in 1959.
He delivered two speeches in Ebglish using only Greek words for emphasizing the wealth of the Greek Langiage and the fact that countless Greek words enrich English. here is his speech:
"It is Zeus' anathema on our epoch of and the heresy of economic methods and policies that we should agonize the Skylla of nomismatic plethora and the Cherybdis of ecomomic anaemia. It is not my diagnosis that politicians could be cleptoplethorists. Although they have emphatically stigmatized nomismatic plethora they energize it through their ethics and practises and should be based more on their economic than political creteria. Our gnomon has to be a metrion between economic stratigic and phianthropic scopes. In an epoch charectized by monolicies, monopolistic antagonism which is endemic among acsdemic economists.
