THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER

November derives from the Latin root "Novem" meaning nine because in the Roman calendar there were only ten months and November is indeed the ninth month.

Every November it is time to begin preparations for the winter ahead such as buying extra woolen clothes, wood for the fireplace, heating petrol for the central heating etcetera.

The Hindu festival of lights Diwali" is celebrated in November according to the Hindu lunar calendar.

November has some of the most important events of the year, such as elections in the USA, Daylight Saving Time, Veterans Day, and Black Friday.

Veterans' Day is observed on the 11th of November and honors veterans and all those who have served in the Armed Forces. My beloved husband's birthday was on the 11th of November and I miss him terribly every day, every hour.

Black Friday is a colloquial term for the Friday after Thanksgiving in the USA and stores offer money-saving specials so that one can buy a  variety of goods at cheaper prices before Christmas and lure more shoppers so it's not really a loss.

Today is the 1st of November and as we say in Greece "kalo mena" have a good month!
