GREEK OFFICER ASSUMES COMMAND OF EU'S OPERATION "IRINI" OFF LIBYA




 Greek commander, Stylianos Dimopoulos, has taken over command of EU's operation "Irini" deployed off  Libya in the central Mediterranean. 

Operation Irini was launched by the European Union on the 31st of March 2020 as part of the EU's contribution to the Berlin process and the return of peace and stability in Libya.

The force commander has tactical command of ships, aircraft and logistic facilities in the area of operations.

The official assumption of command by Dimopoulos was held in a ceremony on board the new flagship HS Aegean carried out by Operation Commander Admiral Stefano Truchetto. 

Dimopoulos replaced Italian Rear Admiral Fabrizio Truchetto.  Command of operation Irini is assigned on a six-monthly rotation between Greece and Italy.
