ANCIENT SKULL FOUND IN GREECE SHOW SIGNS OF COMPLEX SURGERY

An ancient skull discovered by anthropologists in the Pliakastro area of the island of Thasos shows signs of complicated surgery.

The skull which dates from the Byzantine period 4th to 7th centuries AD shows signs of incredibly complicated surgery according to searcher Anagnostis Angellakis Ph.D. who teaches at Adelphi University.

The discovery was made by an Adelphi University research team led by Angellakis.  A total of ten skeletons have been found of 4 women and 6 men were studied. They were likely to be persons of high social status. based on the location and architecture of the burial site

" According to their skeleton, atomic features of both women and men lived physically demanding lives. The very serious traumas sustained by both sexes have been performed by surgeons with great experience," concluded Angellakis.
