Socrates was a Greek philosopher and the main source of Western thought. Little is known about his life except what is written by his students Plato and Xenophon. He was born in Athens circa 470 BC His SOCRATIC MEHOD laid the groundwork of the Western system of logic and philosophy. What we know of his life is through the writings of his students Plato and Xenophon. Socrates believed that philosophy should achieve great results for society.
Socrates was ugly, but he possessed a different kind of attractiveness from his brilliant mind and penetrating thought.
When the political climate changed Socrates was sentenced to death because of his supposedly weird ideas. by poisoning in 399 BC and he accepted this judgment rather than fleeing into exile. The ancient Greek philosophers including Plato, Xenophon, and Aristotle provide a unique and viral portrayal of Socrates'.philosophy and personality.
Socrates was not from a noble family, he received a basic Greek education and followed his father's craftsmanship who was a mason, so he worked a few years as a mason before turning to philosophy and bringing his fellow countrymen true happiness. He asked both the elite and common people alike seeking to arrive at political and ethical lengths. "Knowledge provides happiness," he told them. He was wise enough to recognize his ignorance: the Socratic paradox ONE THING I KNOW THAT I KNOW NOTHING " En oida oti outhen oida". He was a brilliant philosopher that recognized his illiteracy.
