A Greek summer tradition, the annual Athens and Epidaurus Festivals will open this summer with numerous events and major venues in Athens and Epidaurus and "diversity, collectiveness and movement" is this years' motto.
The annual series starting in June to mid-August feature dance, opera, theatre, visual arts, educational tributes, concerts and recitals at the ancient open-air Irodion Theatre, under the Parthenon. Meanwhile, the Ancient Epidaurus Theatre will feature the works of Greek playwrights.
Some of the shows will include concerts by Sting, Calexico and Nana Mouschouri, with many more for the next coming months, including Prometheus' Prometheus Bound, Euripedes' Orestis and Carmen of Bizet and many more.
According to media reports, during the first month, the festivals will record a 96% increase in earnings, compared to the same period last year.
All Greek performances will have English subtitles and many of the events will be free of charge.
