The Ministry of Education of Greece has confirmed that
kindergartens, elementary and special education schools will reopen on the 11thJanuary
2021.
A government policy designed to organise Greece’s public
coronavirus vaccination campaign is due to initiate, on Monday, the registration
of citizens aged over 85 years of age.
December 2020 has, apparently, been the warmest winter month of the last
century, which must be due to climate change.
Also, the first days of 2021 are extremely warm, so winter seems like early
summer.
According to Greek Reporter, Nikos Tselios, a talented young
musician from Rhodes aims to revive the folk music of his island for the
contemporary era. Tselios who plays many
musical instruments, like the piano, lyre, guitar and mandolin emphasizes the prerequisite of maintaining traditional folk music.
“Traditional music is something holy for us….we, traditional
musicians, ought to pressure and promote what has been given to us,” he told the journalist.
As is the case in many parts of Greece “…in Rhodes, tourism
greatly affected the local culture and the music, so, characteristics that have
survived through the ages are now nearly extinguished,” Tselios told the Greek
Reporter, almost in tears.
We are extremely proud of this sensitive and talented young
man who cares so much about his island’s folk music and tries to animate it for modern times and ears.
(I wish to thank the Greek press especially "Greek Reporter" for the valuable information for this post.)
