AN UNPRESIDENTED INFECTION AGONY AROUND THE WORLD

According to the World Health Organisation, the death toll has, unfortunately, risen to 6.500, with a total number of infected cases rising to more than 140.000.  This terrible infection prompts countries to take unprecedented measures in order to prevent a fast-spreading epidemic.

Italy announced on Sunday, 3.509 new cases and 368 deaths in just 24 hours.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has strengthened the UK with “extraordinary intervention that you don’t normally have in peacetime” to combat the coronavirus pandemic. He added that empty hotels across the country would help ease the pressure on the hospitals that are filling up with patients.  He said that he was more concerned that enough staff members and equipment were available to cope with the influx of patients, rather than worrying about where those patients would go to receive care”,
Eleven new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Northern Ireland, bringing the total to 45.  BBC News N. President Trump has repeatedly described the coronavirus outbreak in the USA as a problem that nobody anticipated.  “It came out of nowhere,” he told the press on the 6th of March 2020.
But apparently, Trump is wrong.  The US intelligence community, public health experts and officials  had warned about pandemics and specifically about a coronavirus pandemic, They also had said that it could be a major health problem around the world.
“This was foreseeable and foreseen weeks and months ago and only now is the White House coming out of denial and heading straight into saying it could not have been foreseen” Harvard University epidemiology professor Marc Lipsitch, director of Harvard’s Centre for Communicable Disease Dynamic, said last Saturday.
In Greece, extremely strong measure have been taken from the very beginning. We must not leave our homes and not receive any visitors. It is difficult and very lonely but we should obey orders to prevent the worse. Unfortunately, we now have 331 infected cases, 4 deaths and 52 seriously ill.   But let us all be calm and optimistic, and hope and pray that these amazing scientist/researchers will soon find a vaccine or an antidote against this ghastly disease.

EU Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen

"The less travel. the more we can contain the virus.   Therefore I propose to the heads of state and government to introduce a temporary restriction for non-essential travel to the EU," European Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen told a press conference in Brussels after she had briefed the leaders of the G7 group, by telephone.  "These travel restrictions should be in place for a 30 days initial period but can be prolonged as necessary.  The travel ban will cover all EU member states and the four non-EU Schengen members (Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland.)

People Clapping their Hands Showing their Gratitude to the Medical Staff

And something very touching which I must share with you. All over Greece, people from the windows and balconies of their homes clapped their hands in unison, showing their admiration and gratitude to the doctors and nurses who work day and night, trying to heal their patients, even save their lives, while risking their own.
