GREEK - TURKISH RELATIONS

The Borderline Years Ago

The Borderline Today

As mentioned in a previous post of this blog, migrants who have been brought with busses, cars even taxis to the north-eastern border between Greece and Turkey, following the command of Turkey's Tayyip Erdogan, are trying to enter the  European Union.

This absurd politician, with lies and provocations, is trying to convince the European Union that Greece is shooting at migrants, which they call refugees, on the Greek-Turkish border, which has been fully denied by the Greek and European side.

Moreover, Erdogan demanded the European Union’s help, on Wednesday, for Turkey's mission in Syria as a price for resolving a fresh migrant crisis on its border with Greece, but the Europeans accused him of “blackmailing” the block.

Clashes have broken out between police and refugees at the Greek-Turkish border, where thousands of migrants gathered since Erdogan gave them the green light to cross into the European Union.  Moreover, they threw tear gas and Molotov bombs towards the Greek side, after Turkish instigations.

Migrants clashed with Greek police officers, resulting in the severe injury of an officer.   Greece has blocked nearly 10.000 migrants from entering the European Union on Sunday,1st March 2020.

Unfortunately, most EU member states will probably prefer a hard-line approach to the new influx of migrants and expect states with external borders like Greece, Croatia, Slovenia, Hungary, Austria and Italy to take sole responsibility for dealing with new arrivals.  That would, obviously,  rupture the principle of European solidarity, breach International law and prove utterly heartless.

It is, indeed, very difficult to deal with and solve this very intricate migrant problem which is solely instigated by Turkey.
