Greece has opened its first underwater museum off the coast of Alonissos, called the "Parthenon" of shipwrecks.
The ancient shipwreck of "Peristera" off the Greek island of Alonissos is the Parthenon of shipwrecks opened to divers who are able to visit the famous shipwreck of amphorae from the 5th century BC.
Due to looting concerns, the undersea antiquities were previously accessible only to archaeologists and those with special permission.
Now recreational divers can plunge unto the waters at a depth of 80 feet and encounter the so-called Peristera named after the neighbouring uninhabited islet. It is like traveling in a time machine.
