THE UKRAINE RUSSIAN CONFLICT

THE VERY LATEST NEWS ON THE UKRAINE RUSSIAN CONFLICT

                                            President Volodymyr Zelensky

Five days after Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky and his courageous nation have done more to transform the West’s policy towards Russia than 30 years of post-Cold War summits, policies and showdowns with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

The Ukrainian leader’s defiance has inspired and shamed the USA and the European Union into turning Russia into a despised state for invading and attacking Ukraine, with many dead and injured on both sides.  Both the USA and the European Union by promising weapons and ammunition to Zelensky, the West appears increasingly to be drawn into a proxy war with Moscow over Ukraine, even though it is not a NATO member that benefits from the bloc’s direct mutual defence agreement.

After insisting that severe sanctions would be graded on a rising curve based on Russia’s behaviour, Washington and Brussels have rushed to personally sanction Putin and have taken key Russian banks out of the vital SWIFT global financial network.  In the most extraordinary shift, Germany’s Chancellor, Olaf Scholtz, has pledged to exceed NATO targets for defence spending has overcome its reticence to send weapons to war zones by vowing to arm Ukraine fighting Russian troops.

Germany also halted the Nord Stream 2 pipeline bringing vitally needed Russian gas to Europe.  In another striking moment Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orban, a Putin protegee, has sided with fellow European leaders against the Russians.  Another autocrat, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who has warm ties with Putin, has evoked a 1930s convention that could complicate Russia’s Black Sea naval operations.

And Britain after long turning a blind eye to wealth laundered through swank property banks to European financial markets, as part of what EU foreign policy chief, Josep Barrell described as “the largest package of sanctions ever implemented”.

While there were talks for peace. Russia bombarded Ukrainian territories with many dead and injured.  The talks will be resumed tomorrow with total peace, I hope.

There is talk of nuclear rockets to be sent to Ukraine by Russia, so the Russian government will be charged with genocide.   Ukrainian children shut their eyes tight each night and bloc their ears with cotton wool so that they cannot see or hear the horrors of war.
