SCHOOLS REOPEN IN GREECE

The Greek authorities have extended the beginning of the school year by a week, to September 14th 2020, due to the augmentation of the coronavirus infection, according to official sources.

The growth of  COVID -19 cases and deaths, recently, has obliged the Greek government to gradually reimpose restrictions in order to restrain the spread of the pandemic, during the tourist season.  Athens and many popular islands have been affected.

Mr Petsas, the Greek government spokesman said, three days ago, that the extension was necessary for families to return from their summer holidays and "to make sure they are safe and spend some time at home before the children return to school.  We urge all parents to return with their children to their homes, in the coming days, making sure that they stay safe until the lessons resume", he added.

Masks will be mandatory of all indoor spaces of schools across the country, as well as outdoor spaces when distances are not kept.  Wearing masks will be mandatory on school buses also. The students will be sitting 1.5 meters apart, so there will be much fewer in each classroom.

The Minister of Education, Mrs Nike Keramaeos said the government will provide free masks for the pupils and staff of both public and private schools.   We hope that all the restrictions will be enough to keep both the students and the staff healthy.

Let us all hope and pray that a vaccine against COVID -19  will soon be discovered in order to save humanity from this terrible disease.
