For 42 days, we Greeks have shown exemplary obedience and
patience when our government imposed an early quarantine for our safety against
the coronavirus disease. All carnival
events were cancelled, educational institutions were closed, cultural events
were stopped and later all museums, cafes, bars, restaurants, sports
facilities and all worshipping centres were suspended. We had to strictly stay at home. And
this obedience and solidarity had wonderful results as fortunately, we have the least
infections and victims in the European Union.
The quarantine restrictions will gradually be relaxed from the 7th April when we shall be allowed to go to work, to pharmacies or to the doctor, to food stores, to banks for
services that are not possible online, to assist people in need and the safety of children, to attend christenings, marriages and funerals and divorced parents will be allowed to
visit their children, the only vital condition being that we must all keep a distance of 1½-2 metres away from each other and wear masks and gloves
But as from today, the 4th of April, masks took
the place that quarantine had in our lives.
Masks have become the most crucial part of our existence, we have to buy them and learn to live with them, daily, in order to save our families', our compatriots' and our own lives from this ghastly disease. We have to be very careful when wearing a mask. Our hands must be meticulously clean, washed with soap and hot water before wearing a mask and when we take it off we must first place it in a tied plastic bag and only then dispose of it so that it does not contaminate the environment.
There are many kinds of masks against the coronavirus, here are some photos of the
most popular ones:
