CORONAVIRUS DEATH RATES IN THE UK AND THE WORLD

The Mortal Coronavirus

The death rates from the coronavirus of most deprived parts of England are more than double than in the less deprived areas, according to new figures that show that London is by far the worst-hit part of the country.

London has the highest mortality rate, with 85.7 deaths per 100.000 persons.  This was found to be statistically significantly higher than in any other region - almost double than any other part of the land.

"By the 29th of April, the region with the highest proportion of deaths fo COVID-19 was London, with the virus being involved being in more than 4 in 10 deaths, since the beginning of March," said the head of the health analysis the Optic Nerve Hypoplasia.  In contrast, the South-West of England saw just 1 in 10 deaths involving coronavirus, making it the region with the lowest proportion of coronavirus deaths.

The local authorities with the highest age-standardized mortality entries for deaths involving the coronavirus were all London boroughs.  Rates were also high in the major cities of Liverpool, Birmingham and Manchester. Also,  areas with higher housing density were found to have experienced a higher rate of deaths from the coronavirus outbreak than lower housing density areas.

But this is, unfortunately, happening all over the world, in cold and warm climates alike and, mostly, in densely populated areas. The coronavirus pandemic first appeared in Greece on the 20th February 2020,  As for the 30th April there have been 2.591 confirmed cases and 140 deaths, lower than any other country in the European Union. The government cancelled all carnival events, schools and universities were closed, cultural events were cancelled and on the 15th March all cafes, bars,  museums, shopping centres, sports facilities and all worshipping centres were suspended. On the 18th and 19th March, the government approved measures of more than 10 billion euros to support the economy, businesses and employees.

We must strictly stay at home to save the lives of our loved ones and our own. The only movements outside the house which are permitted are, going to and from work, during working hours, going the pharmacy or visiting the doctor, going to a food store, going to the bank for services that are not possible online, assisting people in need, attending christenings, weddings and funerals or for divorced parents visiting their children and, finally. moving outdoors for exercise or taking one's pet for a walk.   Obviously when leaving one's house one must carry an identity card or a passport.

Let us all pray and hope that medicaments and especially a vaccine will soon be discovered to annihilate this ghastly disease.

Also, our most profound sympathy for all who have lost their loved ones, may they eternally rest in peace.

A Sympathy Wreath for the Innocent Victims
