INDIA MAY HELP GREECE REPATRIATE THE PARTHENON SCULPTURES

 

According to British media aources India is pondeing whether to throw it diplomatic weight behind Greece to have the Parthenon sculptures return to their country of origin by the British Museum 

The diplomatic initiative will be partof a broader push by India by supporting of formely colonial countries to refuse giving their artifacts.

For decades Athens has been calling for tjhe return of the Parthenon sculpures which have been housed in London within the British Museum since 1816. 

The Greek government argues that their extraction by Lord Elgin was unlawful as Greece at the time was under the the yolk of the Ottoman Empire amd was unable to concent or object to the removal of cultural important objects,
