WAR IN EUROPE ?

 How big is Russia's military buildup around Ukraine?  It is the largest concentration of firepower since the end of the cold war.

The crisis on the Russian Ukrainian border continues to simmer.  On February the 5th American officials warned that Russia had gathered more than 70% of the forces that would be necessary for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which could happen as soon as tomorrow warned Jake  Sullivan, America's national security adviser.  A day later Emmanuel Macron, the president of France visited Moscow as part of the diplomatic effort to stop it. "But how large and unusual is Russia's buildup?" US officials said and added that as many as 50.000 Ukrainian civilians could be killed and 25.000 Russian invaders. 

Ukraine Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, questioned the US media report:  "Do not believe the apocalyptic predictions.  Different capitals have different scenarios, but Ukraine has a strong army and unprecedented international support and the Ukrainians' faith in their country.  "This enemy should be afraid of us," said Kuleba. 

Groups such as Amnesty International and the Norwegian Refugee Council criticized recently a military escalation between Ukraine and Russia that could result in a new refugee crisis, displacing millions of people from eastern Ukraine and territories controlled by pro-Russian forces.

"The threat of the use of military force by Russia is already affecting the human rights of millions of people from Ukraine and territories and beyond," said Agnes Cullamail, Amnesty's secretary-general.  

The consequences of military force could be devastating. US officials quoted by US media also said a major Russian force is positioned in the Black Sea, equipped with 5 amphibious vessels that could land troops on Ukraine's southern coast.  

Possible attacks on Ukraine on the lower end of the scale could take the form of sabotage, cyberattacks with the goal of removing the current government of Kyiv, they said.

President Zelesky's government is downplaying the present threat as 30.000 Russian troops are in Belarus for military excercises.
