DANGEROUS TENSION IN THE EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN

Greek P.M. Addresses the Nation

The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, made a momentous, televised speech to the nation.   Responding to the recent tension in the Mediterranean, caused by Turkey which illegally sent an oil and gas exploration vessel, Oruc Raise, to the Greek waters between Greece and Cyprus.

Mr Mitsotakis said that Greece is a proud and strong country, a member of the European Union and a pillar of stability in the region, "steadfastly committed to the principles of International Law and the rules of good neighbourliness,  We seek with all bridges ower, good faith and cooperation."

Prime Minister Mitsotakis said that Greece can not be threatened nor blackmailed and it does not surrender to threats and blackmail neither does it tolerate provocative tensions
.

"With the policy of principles, we have negotiated and signed Maritime Zone  Delimitation Agreements with Italy and recently with Egypt, agreements fully compatible wi the Law of the Sea," he said. "Agreements that prove that when there is a climate of trust, lengthy disputes can be resolved which ensure the progress and prosperity of the people, within the framework of International Law".

Mr Mitsotakis continued that Greece is ready fora dialogue with Turkey, of which Greece is not afraid however difficult "because we have faith in the legality of our positions,  but a dialogue with challenges and in a climate of tension is, obviously, pointless.

The Prime Minister criticised Turkey for not agreeing with the European principles of the 21st century, and that it remains with the logic of coercion and intimidation.  "A logic that belongs to another era", he said.

Mr Mitsotakis also sharply blamed Turkey "pretensions nature for supposed readiness for dialogue.
"Why is it possible for a perfecty legal agreement of one state with another to be used by a third state
as a pretext for withdrawing from extraordinary contacts before they even started", he wondered.

Simultaneously, in fact, that Turkey signed with the administration of Tripolis, in Libya, a non-existent and illegal memorandum and the reported challenge test for Greece and Europe.

The military solution of Turkey is also an admission of a lack of strength. "The projection of power is nothing but an attempt to compensate for its weakness in matters of war", said the Prime Minister.

Acknowledging the development of the Turkish fleet,  Greece also developed its own placing its
armed forces on alert.

"I am sure that all the  Greeks have the same absolute confidence in the military capabilities of our Armed Forces as I have", said the Prime Minister ."In the challenge, we maintain strength which comes from our composure and wisdom.  But in the meantime, we remain in absolute political and operational readiness".

I am very happy and impressed by the Prime Minister's speech, as matters were clearly explained and we were informed about the intentions of the government's retaliation to Turkey's incessant aggressions.  I feel safe and more confident after listening to Mir Mitsotakis.

(I wish to thank the local and international press and media for reminding me Primi Minister Mitsotakis' Speech)

Zeto I Hellas!
