ATTICA IN FLAMES

                                                

 

An extended heatwave and the dry surroundings started a large fire in a wooded area that destroyed homes and buildings in the Athenian northern suburbs.  The residents of Varibobi, Kato Kifissia. Krioneri, Adames, Thrakomakedones and the Olympic Village had to be evacuated.   The Civil Protection Service of Greece still urge people to leave their homes to be saved by this terrible, devastating fire.

 

The men of Fire Brigade are working day and night, but the wind makes the fires spread and multiply bringing havoc and despair to the residents.

 

Unfortunately, besides Attica, 81 more fires are destroying many parts of Greece. Some of the Ionian and Aegean islands, Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly, Epirus, and the Peloponnese have been affected by the raging flames.

 

We wish to thank the courageous men of the Greek Fire Brigade who are saving lives while risking their own.
