More than 168 people are dead and hundreds are missing after
torrential rains led to devastating flooding along the rivers of west Germany,
Belgium and the Netherlands this week.
Meanwhile, local authorities are searching and rescuing
people including the tragic work for looking for bodies in the terrible devastation.
In the German sates of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia
more than 140 people lost their lives in the floods and hundreds are still
missing. Power, water and gas outages
persist as well.
In Belgium, at least 27 people were drowned in the floods.
Scientists and European
officials have linked the tragedy “to the extreme weather event and a slow-moving low-pressure system which dumped 5 to 7 inches of rain or more
within 24 hours in some areas to the effect of climate change."
Our profound condolences to the relations and friends who lost their loved ones in this tragedy, our sorrow for those who lost their property, and our deep admiration for the rescue workers who saved people's lives while risking their own.
PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO BE INOCULATED AGAINST THE CORONAVIRUS SO THAT YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES REMAIN HEALTHY.
