The Greek Islands written by Lawrence Durrell written in 1978 remains one of the most exciting travel books of all times, Durrell/s book is the rignt place for learning about Greek history, ot unique islands and its wonderful poeple.
Lawence Durrell was one of the 20th century's great writers and a philellene who together with Lord Byron praised Greece.
He wrote the Alexandrian Quartet which was based on Greece. Durrell's masterpiece The Greek Islands inspired by his stay in Corfu.
Born in Tibet in 1912 of English parentage he left India for England at the age of 11 and stayed in London but found England very boring and unintesting and returned to Greece which he adopted as his new home.
