ROMAN ERA MARBLE HEAD FOUND IN THE SEA OF PREVEZA GREECE
The head made of Pentelic marble from the Roman period of
Greece was recently found off the sea of Preveza.
The Greek Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday that the
Roman-era head of the sculpture had been pulled off the sea of Preveza after
it had received a tip about its location.
With an intricate hair dress, the sculpture is thought to
have been from the time of the Emperors Antonius and Severus from 2nd
and 3rd centuries AD.
Found at the depth of 10 meters, the head is almost intact. with exception of parts of the headdress, the nose, the right ear, and part of
the chin.
Desalinization and restoration of the head started immediately, thanks to the experts of the Archaeological Museum of Nikopolis.
