DEADLY CHEMICAL ATTACK AGAINST DOUMA

A Map Showing Douma

On the 7th April, a heinous chemical attack was made against Douma, a suburb of Damascus, where dozens of Syrians suffocated to death and hundreds were hospitalized.  The Government of President Bashar al Assad were accused of this barbaric act.  The European Union and the United States expressed their horror and outrage, but the Syrian Government and its allies in Moscow and Iran strongly deny the accusations.

The U.N. Ambassador, Nikki Haley, stated the following:

“The Security Council has come together and demand immediate access for first responders, support an independent investigation into what happened, and hold accountable those responsible for this atrocious act."

An attempt to prevent military action in Syria failed in the U.N. Security Council, on Tuesday evening, because Russia and the Western allies could, unfortunately, not agree on a “concerted international response to the use of chemical weapons.”

The U.S.A, the U.K. and France are determined to penalise the government of Bashar al Assad for this horrific act, by fighting against Syria and their Russian allies.   Consequently, very serious and urgent war preparations are at fever pitch, in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Also, our thoughts and prayers are with all those who lost their loved ones.

At 4 am eastern European time, of the 14th April, 2018, the U.S.A., France and the U.K. carried out precision air strikes against a scientific research facility in Damascus, allegedly connected with the production of chemical and biological weapons, a chemical weapons storage facility west of Holms, and a command post, storing chemical weapons, also near Holms.

According to the President of the U.S.A., Mr. Donald Trump, the attacks were carried out to punish the culprits of the “evil and despicable attack on parents, infants and children thrashing in pain and gasping for air”.  “These are not actions of man, they are crimes of a monster…” he added.

General Joseph Dunford, chairman of the joint chief of staff, enumerated the strikes and said that there was “no coordination with Russia, nor was Moscow informed”.

Also, Mr. James Mattis, the U.S.A. Defense Secretary said that the military “had gone to great length to avoid  civil and foreign  casualties.”

According to the Associated Press the French President, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, said in a press interview, that the U.S.A. Britain and France had full “international legitimacy to intervene with strikes to enforce international, humanitarian law”.   He also added that “according to Syrian and Russian authorities there were no victims on their side, and that is exactly what we wanted to do.”  He continued that the Western allies hit only chemical weapons facilities, “which breached all international law”.  President Macron said that he wishes to speak with all parties concerned, including the Russians, to find a political solution for Syria, through fruitful dialogue.

The U.K. Prime Minister, Mrs. Theresa May, justified the British attacks with cruise missiles, in order to prevent more chemical attacks, after her government's legal department assured her that “it was legal on humanitarian grounds”.  (BBC, CNN, France 24).
