“macar” was used to refer to the deceased and to pay
homage to his or her journey to the underworld.
In ancient Greece at funerals, a dough was prepared, called
macarion, blessed. which was a mixture of flour and water. cut into strips,
boiled, strained, and served with honey, as a symbol of life and sweetness in the afterlife.
