LATEST INTERNATIONAL NEWS






The Caribbean remains under varying levels of curfew restrictions as a result of COVID -19. While some other countries will lift the limit of movement and gatherings, but many citizens are still staying home for now.









Also in Jamaica, people are worried and stayed at home in order to curb this terrible disease.









Dr Rick Bright, who was dismissed by Donald Trump, will testify before Congress on Thursday that the Trump administration was unprepared for the coronavirus pandemic and warned that the US will face "unprecedented illness and fatalities" without additional preparation.  "Without clear planning and implementation of the steps that I and other experts outlined, 2020 will be the darkest winter in modern history."






Boutique Hotels in Athens

2020 has been a tourism catastrophe. Socrates Gavriel is getting ready for a dramatic drop of visitors in his boutique hotel in Athens, this summer.  Athens usually welcomes drones of tourists this time of the year.  "The concern this summer is that those who will come, when and if they do, will skip the cities and head straight for the beaches," Gavriel told CNN.  "The hotel is rented property and there are many bills to pay as I have invested in it heavily," he added.

Gavriel's story is happening across the world as government restrictions designed to curb the coronavirus pandemic keeps billions of people at home and bring international travel and tourism to a standstill.









Airlines are also in a precarious economic situation. Even some of the largest global airlines, like  Lufthansa, are seeking government bailouts in order to survive.  Apparently, travel snd tourism accounts for 10% of global Gross Domestic Product and 1 in 10 jobs according to the World Travel and Tourism Council.  As many as one-third of these jobs, more than 10 million positions and some 2.7 trillion dollars in GDP could be at risk due to the current crisis.







Dr Anthony Fauci with Trump

Donald Trump said that a sobering warning by his top infections disease expert about lifting pandemic restrictions too soon was unacceptable.  He accused Dr Anthony Fauci of wanting "to play in all sides of the equation", in his testimony on Tuesday.  The president said he was especially dissatisfied with Dr Fauci's caution around reopening schools too quickly.


COVID-19 has infected 1.4 million people in the US and has killed 84.000 while ravaging the economy.







ISIS Terror
There is deep concern that ISIS and other terrorist groups could exploit the coronavirus pandemic to carry out attacks in Europe, a European Union official has warned.







Ancient Olympia with Sunshine

The European Commission advised member states, on Wednesday, to open their borders to counties with similar coronavirus risks, under a plan to bolster the ailing tourist industry.   Their announcement was eagerly anticipated by millions of would-be travellers desperate to visit European countries with sunshine and culture.

Margaritis Schinas, the Vice President for Promoting our European Way of Life, said: "As our member states gradually lift restriction measures, we are putting in place the foundation for rebooting (tourism) in a safe, proportionate way that will prevent the resurgence of the virus within the EU, whilst safeguarding our way of life."
